Wedding Harpist - Biography
Lydia Lowndes-Northcott began playing
the harp at the age of 9, and at 12 won a music Scholarship to study
harp with Brynmore Williams at Wells Cathedral School. She later
studied there with Ann Griffiths and Ruth Faber. Whilst at the school,
Lydia performed regularly as a soloist and chamber musician, and in
1996 appeared on television accompanying a choir in the Final of the
BBC Sing Out competition. In 1997 she took part in the World Harp
Competition in Cardiff. In 1999 she won a Scholarship to study at the
Royal Academy of Music in London. She returned to Cardiff in 2000 to
perform with Cliff Richard and Bryn Terfel in the Millennium Songs of
Praise, filmed at the Millennium Stadium.
Since 2002 Lydia has performed frequently with professional orchestras including Wedmore Opera and Somerset Opera Companies, and has performed widely as a soloist throughout the South West. She has often collaborated with outstanding flautist Mary Owen. Together they have given Duo recitals and have performed for BBC Live Music Now.
